SAFC & UPSL Press Release

ARIZONA (July 8, 2022) – Sporting Arizona Football Club (SAFC) is honored to announce that its teams, Sporting Arizona and SAFC Sahuaros, will again compete in the UPSL next season.

Sporting Arizona will field a team in the UPSL Premier Division, while SAFC Sahuaros will again field a team in the UPSL Division One.

During the regular season, SAFC players have a unique opportunity to showcase their talent in both UPSL tiers.

In the off season, travel conditions allowing, the most deserving talent from both teams will have the opportunity to play internationally alongside our teammates from Italian clubs, Modena FC and AP Pian Due Torri.

In addition to their footballing skills, players must show an ability to display positive strength of character and loyalty to their teammates, on and off the field.

Challenging pre-season tryouts and friendlies are being arranged to test players who will make the cut, both athletically and emotionally.

“There is a time in life when a man realizes that everybody is in the same boat and that his boat doesn’t rise because someone else’s sinks. That is the kind of thinking we want from SAFC players” – says Gennaro Buonocore, SAFC President – “Players must be indeed competitive but, if they can’t embrace this basic concept, they can join one of the many other great teams in the Valley, because we would really have great difficulty placing them in any other club abroad.”

UPSL Commissioner Yan Skwara stated, “We continue to be pleased with the growth of our UPSL Arizona Conference and our membership base of teams as we have established two playing divisions of play for our UPSL Arizona based teams. The UPSL Premier Division and UPSL Division 1. Populating both divisions with quality local clubs has taken several years and the end result is now having a league system platform of promotion and relegation in place in Arizona which is the global standard of soccer leagues worldwide.”
